About us
Making waste matter
Denuo is the Belgian employers' federation of private waste management and recycling companies.
Together with our members, we are working towards a circular future, where your waste materials are the primary raw materials for new products.
Ambition
Denuo is the driving force in Belgium for policies that maximize the use of waste materials in new products.
As an employers' federation, we are the central point of contact for anyone who wants to turn circular ambitions into economic reality.
We unite, strengthen, and represent private companies actively involved in waste management and recycling in Belgium through communication, advocacy, and social dialogue.
In this way, we are building together with our members:
- an attractive and future-oriented sector for workers, employees, and entrepreneurs;
- strategic autonomy, thanks to innovations in reuse, recycling, and safe waste processing that yield essential raw materials;
- sustainable economic prosperity in Belgium, anchored in a unified European market.
Inclusivity
As a sectoral federation, Denuo aims to be an inclusive organization. Through inclusion, the federation wants to embrace diversity and enable everyone to be who they are and give their best within the organization.
Faced with this significant challenge, Denuo wants to work in phases. In the first phase, the federation focuses on the integration of women and specifically aims to achieve gender equality. Therefore, Denuo launched the Women in Recycling project at the end of 2020. In a second phase, the federation wants to broaden the debate and promote diversity and inclusivity in a broader sense.
With a view to this inclusivity, Denuo has established a charter with a number of rules that must be adhered to in the interactions between the federation and the members (in communication, during Denuo meetings and events, during email/telephone exchanges). The underlying idea is that all members feel welcome at Denuo meetings/events and feel involved in the communication.
- The federation aims to provide the press with a varied image of our sector, so that it reflects the diversity of our companies and their staff as accurately as possible. The federation strives, first and foremost and as far as possible, to ensure a balance between men and women in the selection of individuals presented to the press. Secondly, the federation tries to propose two speakers with different characteristics (e.g., differences in: origin, gender, language, family situation, physical appearance, health status, disability, genetic traits, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, political views, philosophical or religious beliefs...) whenever a journalist requests a contact.
- The federation takes into account the balance between work and private life as much as possible when choosing the schedules for the federation's events.
- The federation strives for the greatest possible diversity in the composition of the Arenas and the Board and in the renewal of the composition of these meetings.
- To achieve the greatest possible diversity in the Arenas and the Board, the federation and the members try to propose two candidates with different characteristics (M/F or see examples above) whenever someone applies for the position of board member or participant in an Arena.
- The federation and the Arenas commit to (if possible) electing a vice-chairperson in each Arena with different characteristics than the chairperson.
- The federation strives for the greatest possible variety in the selection of speakers at Denuo events.
- The federation wants to be a place where everyone feels comfortable and finds their place. The moderators of the Arenas / the Board / the General Assembly play an active role in ensuring that everyone has a voice and that everyone is heard.
- The federation is committed to taking action in the event of offensive and discriminatory remarks at a meeting organized by the federation.
